what is trybe festival?

Formerly known as Trybe Day, we are giving our event a facelift and expanding it to include 2 full days of workshops suitable for all levels.

Taught in the typical Trybe FAFO (f around and find out) style, come and experience completely new disciplines or take a deep dive into learning some dream skills.

Support your peers as they show off their hard earned work from the past few months, laugh at each other while learning something new and above all, celebrate your own progress with the Trybe.

when?

May 9 (Saturday) - Festival

May 10 (Sunday) - Special Workshops

Meet The Coaches

Special Guest Coach

Scott tramp pose.jpeg

scott mcdonald

My name is Scott McDonald; I’m an acrobatic coach known for my creativity and for teaching a wide variety of disciplines in a progressive, step-by-step way that makes learning safe, fun and approachable!

I’ve worked with many different students including celebrities, amputees, children with learning disabilities, complete beginners, Cirque du Soleil teams, and Olympic champions- no matter who you are or what you aspire to learn, I would love to help you achieve your goals.

I was not a naturally gifted or talented acrobat- I was predominantly self-taught and learned through years of trial and error, so I understand the difficulties of learning and am extremely passionate about teaching others. I believe in celebrating progress and focusing on one aspect of a new skill at a time- I coach others using the exact same method I used to train myself, a method that took me from training in gyms to performing on stages around the world with celebrities, Cirque du Soleil, and more!

1. How do I register? Saturday and Sunday registration is separate from each other. Signing up for either day will first require you to create an account on our system. For Saturday: Please buy the full day ticket option here which will give you access to all our workshops, performances, games and challenges. Food and drinks may be charged separately. For Sunday: Please sign up for each individual workshop here. For existing members you can pay with your existing package. If you are new to Trybe you are welcome to buy a package to enjoy a discount or pay for each session individually.

2. How do I know if this is right for me? If you are an existing Trybe member or want to be part of a judgement free community and explore new skills will purpose then this is the place to be! During our day long festival on Saturday, each workshop session will offer 3 different sessions to choose from. There will always be 1 or 2 options for complete beginners to explore new skills, with subjects changing every hour. Workshop levels will be denoted on the schedule and prerequisites will be explained before the session so you can make the best decision on what to join! Sunday workshop sessions are for intermediate-advanced students who want to explore specific subjects. While we will do our best to guide students through progressions, each session will have pre-requisites that must be met in order to join for everyone’s safety. Please ensure you have read these carefully as we will not be able to adjust class content for beginners.

3. When will the schedule be released? At the moment we are still seeking everyone’s feedback on what they are interested in learning! You can fill out our interest form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1wi2YYaHAZ58SS_9HfWVIvJDiqWqbQa_HRsuSjENTRI0/edit We will finalise the schedule in Mid April but you can get a pretty good idea of what the festival will look like in our sample schedule above.

4. What's the difference between Saturday and Sunday? Saturday is an evolution of our previous Trybe Days. It features performance opportunities for our students to showoff what they have been working on over the past year. As well as plenty of games and challenges for everyone to play, laugh and enjoy together as a community. Our focus on Saturday is celebrating everyone’s achievements and exploring new movements together. Sunday offers a chance for students to dive deeper via our guest instructor workshops into specific skills that we usually don't have enough time to focus on in our regular classes.

5. Can I just join a single workshop on Saturday? No

6. Can I bring my friends / family / kids? We would love for you to bring friends who are interested in our community to join us on Saturday. There will always be something available for new beginners. However please note that this is an adults only event, and at this time will not allow anyone under 18 years old to join the Saturday festival. Students who have met the prerequisites and can demonstrate maturity are welcome to signup for the Sunday workshop sessions.

7. Can I volunteer to help on the day or teach a subject? Yes of course! Trybe events always welcome and revolve around volunteers. If you are interested in teaching a session please send us a message. While we most likely will not be able to fit it into this Trybe Festival we will keep it in mind and hopefully add it in for our next iteration.
