Amanda Cheng

As a child, Amanda primarily competed in gymnastics, finishing third all around in the SACAC gymnastics competition in 2004/2005. She was also part of her school’s inline hockey team, captain of the rock climbing team, and enjoyed trying out the different sports available.

Never able to sit still, and after a few years of focusing on her studies with minimal exercise in university, Amanda discovered the benefits of Yoga, discovered the joys of Acroyoga, Pole Fitness/Dancing, Lyra and Handstands. She moved away from her fulltime job in production to start teaching and spreading the joy of learning to understand your body and how to control it. A forever student, Amanda continues to try various physical activities, including Acrobatics, Circus Arts, Weightlifting and Spinning. Even better, she now has space at Trybe to be able to retrain her tumbling from her gymnastic days.

Having met the founders of Trybe, and trained under 2 of the 5 teachers, Amanda loved the way they made ‘exercise’ and ‘fitness’, words that tend to mean boredom, into a form of play which is what she hopes to spread too.

Amanda has studied under Miguel Sant’ana and received her 200hr Teacher Training under Patrick Creelman. She continues to study under artists from Cirque du Soleil and other international and local teachers and artists.

Her approach to training and trying new movements is simply ‘why not?’. As long as you keep going, you can eventually master anything. She enjoys learning more about her limits, her body control and to continue to sharpen all her skills.
